How to store Fixa Foods

What's so great about frozen?

It used to be that frozen food was all about ice cream, pizza, and processed dinners. Now frozen food is about freshness and convenience. Think of your freezer as an extension of your pantry where you store fresh food to have on hand for meal prep. Your freezer is your friend.

Why is Fixa Foods frozen?

We make Fixa Foods fresh and immediately freeze all of our products. This not only retains peak freshness/nutrition, but it allows you to have Fixa Foods flavors on hand in your freezer for weekly meal prep. They won't be hidden in your refrigerator only to find months later.

How should I store Fixa Foods?

Keep Fixa Foods frozen to preserve freshness and have on hand for weekly meals. Here's a general rule of thumb:

  • Put in the freezer for the future.
  • Put in your fridge for the week.
  • Put on your counter for the evening.
  • Give a good stir.
  • Enjoy within 7 days of opening.
What is the shelf life?

Fixa Foods will stay in your freezer for up to 6 months, but usually it is gobbled up before then.

Once transferred to your refrigerator, it will keep about 10 days unopened.

Once opened, enjoy within 7 days if it isn't devoured in one sitting.

What if I can't use an entire jar?

If you'd like to have smaller serving sizes of Fixa Foods, spoon the (defrosted) product into sterilized ice cube trays. Cover tightly and pop it in the freezer. Then you'll have smaller serving sizes of our flavors that you can heat up to add to bowls, pasta, vegetables, and more.

Can I refreeze Fixa Foods?

If you defrost Fixa Foods just enough to scoop out your desired amount with a sterilized spoon, you can refreeze the rest.

How do I meal prep with Fixa Foods?

Fixa Foods makes meal prep easy and delicious. First, do an inventory of what ingredients you have on hand in your fridge, pantry, and freezer. Then decide which Fixa Foods flavor you'd like to pair with these ingredients (see Serving Ideas for inspo). Then put your Fixa Foods flavor of choice in the fridge to defrost so it's ready for the week.

Here's a simple formula to help.

VEGGIES + GRAIN + PROTEIN + FIXA FOODS FLAVOR
= A FABULOUS HEALTHY MEAL

How do I use Fixa Foods as a dip?

Fixa Foods flavors make everything from a quick snack to a gourmet addition to your grazing boards. Open the jar, grab some veggies, chips, or crackers and dive in. Before you know it...the jar is gone!

See our Serving Ideas page, and click "dip" in the categories to learn more.

How do I use Fixa Foods as a spread?

Fixa Foods flavors are great for spreading on just about anything like toast, sammies, pita, crackers, burgers...the possibilities are endless!

See our Serving Ideas page, and click "spread" in the categories to learn more.

How do I make a sauce?

It's easy to turn Fixa Foods flavors into sauces for pasta, bowls, tacos, and more. Watch this video on how to make a sauce.

For a fast sauce:

Depending on how much sauce you want, place a few spoonfuls of your Fixa Foods flavor in a heat-proof bowl. Add a bit of very hot water and stir to your desired consistency. Serve over Buddha bowls, tacos, veggies, or protein of your choice.

For pasta:

Empty a bag of pasta into a large pot of boiling, salted water. Stir occasionally and cook for about 6-9 minutes until al dente. In a heat-safe bowl, reserve a cup or two of pasta water to mix with one-half to one full jar of Fixa Foods sauce, depending on how much sauce you want to make (leftovers are always great). For a thicker sauce, use less water, and for a thinner sauce, use more. Drain the pasta and toss with the sauce and any vegetables, protein, or toppings of your choice.

How do I make a dressing?

Fixa Foods flavors make a great base for salad dressings. Similar to a sauce preparation, place several spoonfuls of your defrosted Fixa Foods flavor in a bowl. Slowly whisk in a few tablespoons of warm water (not oil) until you've reached your desired consistency. Drizzle over your salad, toss, and enjoy!

What are some other serving ideas?

Fixa Foods helps complement what you have on hand to make your meals easy and delicious. Fix a dip for a grazing board, dress up a salad, spread it on a sandwich, or make it saucy for pasta—there’s no wrong way to fix a fresh snack or meal.

See our Serving Ideas for inspiration.
